About Renee

Renee Meyer is a lifelong potter, educator, and owner of The Ceramic and Pottery Center in Dickinson, Texas. For more than 30 years, she has shared her passion for clay by teaching pottery, ceramics, glass fusing, and Precious Metal Clay to students of all ages. An accredited instructor in Hadar’s Precious Metal Clay, Renee believes creativity grows through exploration and is passionate about helping others discover the joy of making something with their own hands.

Her love of clay began long before she ever stepped into a pottery studio. Summers spent at her grandparents’ farm in Missouri, where she spent countless hours making mud pies, and a kindergarten pinch pot sparked a fascination that never faded. After moving to Texas as a child, she continued working with clay dug from the creek behind her home, unknowingly beginning a lifelong journey in ceramics.

After studying art throughout high school and college, Renee dedicated herself to exploring the endless possibilities of clay. Over the years, she has developed a distinctive style centered on wheel-thrown and altered pottery, blending traditional craftsmanship with innovative surface techniques and a willingness to continually experiment.

Renee’s work blends wheel-thrown forms with hand-altered details, creating pottery that is both functional and sculptural. Her signature floral line work, layered glazes, and richly textured surfaces make her work instantly recognizable. Inspired by botanical gardens and the natural world, she draws from a wide range of techniques including Raku firing, sgraffito, slip trailing, wax resist, underglazes, and layered glazing to create pieces rich in movement, depth, and color. Rather than following a single process, Renee embraces experimentation, combining traditional and contemporary techniques to create pottery that is expressive, dynamic, and uniquely her own.

Teaching has always been at the heart of Renee’s artistic journey. Whether introducing a beginner to the potter’s wheel, demonstrating Raku firing, or sharing advanced surface decoration techniques, she strives to make complex processes approachable while encouraging students to experiment, ask questions, and discover their own creative voice. She believes every success and every mistake is simply another step in the creative process.

Today, Renee continues to create functional and decorative pottery from her studio in Dickinson while teaching workshops and demonstrating ceramic techniques throughout Texas. Two of her Raku pieces were selected for publication in 500 Raku: Bold Explorations of a Dynamic Ceramics Technique (Lark Crafts), and her work has also been featured in other ceramic books, print publications, and educational materials. Every piece reflects more than three decades of exploration, blending traditional craftsmanship with innovative surface techniques to create pottery rich in movement, texture, and color.
